    I love your videos. Always thought-provoking and applicable. One request I have is to do some videos where story is more focused on (how the story motivates the lighting specifically and how to achieve specific feelings and evoke emotion with differing setups.) I love how you did that a bit more in this video. Keep up the great work!

    That clip crosses the line like crazy but it's the cheating of positions that throws me a little. There's some massive cheating of positions between what's established in the wide and the deep 2-s over Benedict's shoulder. It's bold that his final look up at the end is across the line - seems a little unnecessary. Thanks, the lighting break-down is interesting.

    • @SuperiorShred
      @SuperiorShred 11 дней назад

      Because not everyone is gonna fall magically into where the lighting is good in a lit room when there’s four characters that are moving around with the blocking. He’s just saying that shooting it in this way makes it inefficient to light because you have to repo a lot of lighting or add in more units to make it all work. Which is more margin for you fucking it up!

    • @Owen.Wagner
      @Owen.Wagner 11 дней назад

      Then just let the lighting be bad in some spots… it’s better that you have some bad lighting in order to keep it realistic. Realism here would make it make sense in your mind when watching. It’s a lot easier and better imo than lighting for people and it not making sense like he talked about

    Only thought I had in terms of making it easier is if you can find street lights that you can make use of as top light and then if you also have the ground wet, it’s going to reflect back off the ground and give me some a bit of light on the street but yeah I guess it really depends on the location but if you can find a location that you’ve got a street light that you can stick your talent under… Free lighting it’s right there easy breezy

    Menace with a pancake for dual key and her top light before the second actor comes into shot. Smaller boom for the back/hair light. LED's so no running of cable. Dedo or something similar for eyelight. These were my initial thoughts. Might just get away with something smaller than a menace, perhaps the Kupo rig that utilises ally scaff pipes. Street closure and access would be crucial in deciding what kind of set up. There are more guerilla ways like using sparks with hand-held booms for key and back. Then there's no need for stands on the pavement and no street closures (at least in London the rule is no stands and you don't need permits). Many other ways to do it I'm sure.

As an aspiring filmmaker everyone lies to you and tells you you’re good because they don’t want to be the bad guy or gal. But here, we’re told you’re not as good as you think you are but also not as bad as your inner voice tells you. So thank you. You always say the things I need to hear in order to grow.

    It's actually compound interest, so returns will be greater. Instead of 1% times 10, it is 1% to the power of 10, because you're making 1% ON TOP of the 1% you made yesterday. So after 10 days, you will be just shy of 10.50% better, but if you keep at it for 360 days a year, you will end up improving yourself 37 TIMES!
